The guidance is based on the Equator Principles, the UN Global Compact,7 Principles for Sustainable Insurance (UNPSI), Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI),8the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards,9 the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises10 and civil society input such as the WWF report How Banks can Safeguard our World Heritage,11 as well as advice from the technical Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Committee – the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), International Centre for the Study of the Preservation of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
The guidance is divided into two parts. Part 1 concerns establishing (or pledging) the ‘no-go’ commitment (guidance 1–4) and Part 2 addresses the implementation of the commitment itself (guidance 5–7).
