Introduction.
Background
UNESCO has recently launched a three-year project titled "World Heritage Cities and Climate Action in the Asia-Pacific Region," with the generous support of the Japan Funds-in-Trust. The project aims to enhance understanding and action at the intersection of cultural heritage preservation and climate change adaptation.
It is structured in three phases:
• Year 1: Conduct a regional survey to assess the current state of climate change impacts and responses among World Heritage Cities in the Asia-Pacific region, and widely share the findings with relevant stakeholders.
• Year 2: Facilitate the exchange of knowledge among stakeholders, identify potential solutions, and implement tailored pilot projects in selected cities based on their specific contexts.
• Year 3: Share the outcomes of the project not only with site managers but also with decision/policy makers in the cities, promoting the integration of climate action into urban policies for the protection of World Heritage properties.
To advance this project, we are now seeking to recruit an expert to conduct a regional survey on World Heritage Cities and Climate Action in Asia and the Pacific.
