Mr Gabriel Caballero served as International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) Focal Point for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He has represented the organization for several high-level engagements related to the implementation of the SDGs. In February 2023, he was part of the Expert Group Meeting in Bilbao, Spain organized by UN-DESA & UN Habitat to take stock of the progress of SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities. He represented ICOMOS for the UNESCO Mondiacult World Conference in Mexico City in 2022, provided the report of cultural heritage and sustainable development during the 44th Session of the World Heritage Committee in China.
As part of his engagement for the World Heritage Convention, Mr Caballero currently serves as the Consultant for the UNESCO National Commission for the Philippines (UNACOM) for World Heritage engaging with national agencies and local governments to push for well thought of world heritage nominations and well managed sites. He served as an Expert Reviewer for UNACOM evaluating nominations and state of conservation in 2016 and 2017. He has also been a desk reviewer for IUCN and ICOMOS for cultural landscape nominations in since 2018 and has contributed to the Upstream Process in 2022.
