In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, the WHIPIC is holding 2 Webinars and 3 Lectures between 25 August and 3 November under the theme of ‘Bridging the Gap: 50 Years of the World Heritage Convention’. Throughout the programmes, there will be presentations and discussions centred on often overlooked areas in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention and the role heritage interpretation can play to rectify those gaps while also reflecting on the past 50 years of the Convention.
While reflecting on the past fifty years of the World Heritage Convention, international experts in the heritage field will discuss the areas overlooked in the Convention and the role of heritage interpretation to complement those gaps during this year’s Online Lecture and Webinar Series. For this purpose, two webinars and three lectures will be held between 25 August and 3 November under the theme of ‘Bridging the Gap: 50 Years of the World Heritage Convention’. This year, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention, the series in 2022 will be held under the theme of ‘Bridging the Gap: 50 Years of the World Heritage Convention’.
The upcoming session, which will be held on 29 September at 05:00 UTC / 14:00 KST, is “For Sustainable Heritage Interpretation: Public Friendly Presentation”. The lecturer will be Mr James Carter, a Fellow of the AHI (Association for Heritage Interpretation). There will be a Q&A session with public participants after the lecture.
The following lectures are on the topic of the ways to make linkages between the tangible and intangible heritage and documentary heritage (20 October). The 5th and final session will be held on 3 November and will cover the theme of ‘The Directions of Heritage Interpretation in World Heritage Policy’ in order to work towards establishing a policy that will have been discussed during the series.
The programmes will be in English with open access without any necessary prior registration. After the event, videos of the sessions will be uploaded on WHIPIC’s YouTube and Facebook for easy and accessible viewing.
