Multistakeholder Dialogue at UNESCO Headquarters on 25 and 26 May 2023
Key Words: Multistakeholder Dialogue,UNESCO
Introduction.
UNESCO has engaged in the elaboration of a UNESCO Framework on Culture and Arts Education in response to the decision of its Member States calling for enhanced synergies and interdisciplinarity between the fields of culture and education echoing the needs and aspirations of a fast-evolving environment and learning context that requires more agile, inclusive and resilient societies.
In this context, the Organization is building on its mandate on culture and education grounded in its long lasting regulatory frameworks, policy advice and programme resources in the two areas, to shape a novel Framework guided by a global perspective of education that encompasses culture in all its dimensions, from cultural heritage to cultural expressions and creativity, echoing the UN Secretary-General’s Vision Statement on Transforming Education by fundamentally rethinking the purpose, content and delivery of education in favor of equity and inclusion, quality and relevance to prepare learners of all ages, and future generations, to face future shocks and shape more just, sustainable, healthy and peaceful futures.
As a part of the preparatory steps towards the future Framework, UNESCO is convening a two days’ Multistakeholder Dialogue on the occasion of the International Arts Education Week, with the aim of engaging a wide range of stakeholders across various regions and contexts in providing knowledge, insights and resources for the development of the Framework.
The Multistakeholder Dialogue will serve as a platform to support advocacy efforts for the UNESCO Framework in the run-up to the World Conference on Culture and Arts Education, that will be convened by UNESCO for the adoption of the Framework.
