Joven Ian M. Marquez finished BSEd Social Studies and a Master of Arts major in Social Science Education at President Ramon Magsaysay State University (PRMSU). His master's thesis focused on establishing a University Museum at PRMSU. He also completed a course on Korean Culture at Kyung Hee University, South Korea and a three-year Museum Management Training for Higher Education Institutions organized by the University of the Philippines Baguio and funded by the Commission on Higher Education. Currently, he is taking his Doctor of Philosophy in Southeast Asian Studies degree at Centro Escolar University Manila.
His research interests broadly cover museum management, Philippine local history, Southeast Asian history and cultural heritage education. He is a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), a non-governmental, non-profit international organization of museums and museum professionals committed to the conservation, continuation, and communication to society of the world’s natural and cultural heritage, present and future, tangible and intangible. Mr. Marquez is also a member of New York Southeast Asia Network, a community of scholars aimed to promote research on, discussion about, and awareness of Southeast Asia and U.S. Southeast Asian relations through collaboration among academics, artists, policymakers and other professionals.
